Role Overview:
This is a contract, project-based position for a Chemical Engineer (PE) specializing in the design and implementation of sustainable distributed generation projects utilizing renewable and traditional fuels. You will leverage your expertise to contribute to impactful initiatives, including landfill gas recovery, anaerobic digestion facilities for diverse organic waste streams (breweries, dairy farms, wastewater treatment), and other innovative energy solutions. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to a cleaner energy future on a flexible, project-specific basis.
Responsibilities:
Design and Engineer Process Systems: Develop detailed process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications for distributed generation projects utilizing biomass, biofuels, and traditional fuels, including anaerobic digestion and landfill gas systems.
Perform Process Modeling and Simulation: Utilize industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD) to model and simulate process performance, optimize system design, and predict energy output for various feedstocks, including organic waste and wastewater.
Conduct Feasibility Studies and Economic Evaluations: Analyze project viability, assess feedstock availability, and perform economic evaluations to determine the financial feasibility of distributed generation projects, including cost-benefit analyses and return-on-investment calculations.
Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Maintain a thorough understanding of and ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations (EPA, state, and local) and industry standards, including permitting and reporting requirements.
Collaborate with Multidisciplinary Teams: Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and civil engineers, as well as project managers and clients, to integrate process systems into overall project designs and ensure seamless project execution.
Provide Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Offer technical expertise during project commissioning, startup, and operation, including troubleshooting process issues, optimizing system performance, and providing training to operations personnel.
Develop and Document Technical Deliverables: Prepare detailed technical reports, design calculations, operating procedures, and test results to document project designs and ensure knowledge transfer.
Optimize Process Efficiency: Continuously evaluate and optimize process performance to maximize energy output, minimize waste, and improve overall system efficiency.
Manage Project Timelines and Budgets: Contribute to project planning, track progress against milestones, and manage project budgets to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Qualifications:
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited engineering program in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering or a relevant specialization would be a valuable asset.
Professional Licensure:
Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States is required.
Eligibility and willingness to obtain PE licenses in additional US states as required by project needs.
Technical Expertise:
Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in designing and implementing chemical processes for biomass, biofuels, and traditional fuels in distributed energy applications.
Demonstrated expertise in landfill gas recovery, anaerobic digestion, and related processes.

Expenses:
Travel and business-related expenses directly associated with client meetings, industry events, and project development will be reimbursed at the standard government published rates. This includes mileage, lodging, meals, and other necessary costs incurred while conducting business on behalf of Electric Peak Engineering.
All reimbursable expenses must be pre-approved and documented with valid receipts. We adhere to strict expense reporting policies to ensure transparency and accountability.
Since compensation for this role is 100% commission-based, personal and home office expenses are not reimbursed.
